Basic Culinary
Working alongside the Culinary Instructor, participants put their culinary skills to the test. They prepare a wide variety of delicious meals daily, from a classic grilled cheese to inspiring international cuisine. Participants learn about Safe Food Handling practices and proper use of kitchen equipment. The Instructor stresses the importance of Canada’s National Food Guide when menu planning to ensure nutritional needs are met. They also utilize the outdoor space and cook with foods from our gardens. The practical side of the Basic Culinary program is to learn about: food costs and budgeting while grocery shopping, time management, reading cookbooks and following recipes. Participants in the Basic Culinary program also volunteer weekly for a local Breakfast Program.
Community, Culture and Me
Expressive Arts
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time” –Thomas Merton.
Art can open up a whole new world for someone, it is inclusive, and it provides an outlet for one to communicate feelings free from judgement. It is an opportunity to take a picture or an idea in your head and make it into something tangible. With art, the possibilities are endless. Participants in the Expressive Arts program at CABLC, explore the use of various forms of art, from visual art, sketching, writing, and photography, to music, movement and drama.
G.O.A.L.S.
(Gaining Opportunities and Life Skills)
Life Skills is a theme that threads through all of our programming at Crossing All Bridges. In the G.O.A.L.S program, while operating our daily in-house Tuck Shop, participants gain opportunities to learn and practice skills related to money management, customer service, and communication skills. This program also emphasizes the importance of appropriate social skills and healthy relationships, exploring topics such as: stress and anxiety management, emotional regulation, and personal safety, skills that become transferable not only to the home environment but also to the workplace.
Recreation & Wellness
A key component of the Recreation and Wellness program is assisting participants in developing a committed and positive attitude towards lifelong healthy active living. Benefits include: improved psychological wellbeing, physical capacity, self-esteem, social interaction, and ability to cope with stress. Activities are implemented to improve muscle tone, spatial awareness, and endurance. The program is designed to assist participants in understanding how their personal actions and decisions will affect their health, fitness, and well-being. This program features seasonal activities such as: biking, walking, and skipping, as well as, weekly yoga and meditation.
